A Beautiful Afternoon Celebrating the Mothers of Englewood, Chicago

On May 10, Grow Greater Englewood welcomed mothers, daughters, grandmothers, caregivers, and community leaders to Hamilton Park for its annual Mother’s Day Celebration. This event is one of the organization’s signature events, dedicated to honoring the women who help keep our community moving. The afternoon began with prayer, libations, and a community altar honoring ancestors and calling the names of loved ones who are no longer with us, creating a meaningful space for reflection and gratitude.

Guests were then treated to a full meal service, complete with wait staff, while enjoying music from a live DJ, shopping with local vendors, and connecting with community resource organizations. The celebration brought together multiple generations of women, creating a joyful atmosphere filled with conversation, laughter, and appreciation. A highlight of the event was a fashion show inspired by sponsor Ashro, featuring the women showing off their stylish looks and a $250 shopping spree giveaway for one lucky winner.
Ashro also provided beautiful caftans and scarves for guest goodie bags. Attendees also had the chance to win prizes through a fishbowl raffle featuring donations from partners including the Chicago White Sox, Chicago Sky, Bronzeville Winery, and others.

The celebration was made even more special by a visit from 16th Ward Alderwoman Stephanie Coleman, who stopped by to share her well wishes with attendees. With the support of community partners and volunteers, the event was a wonderful reminder of the importance of taking time to celebrate the women who nurture, lead, and care for our families and neighborhoods every day. Thank you to Ashro and everyone who joined us in making this year’s Mother’s Day Celebration a beautiful expression of love, gratitude, and community.
