Ashro Woman: Nekisha C.

Meet Ashro Woman of the Week,Nekisha C. from Atlanta, GA

Pastor Nekisha is a woman of many titles, and she wears them all with grace. She is Wife, Mother of 6, Pastor, First Lady, Career Woman and Law Student!

God is at the very center of her being and her life. “I have been speaking to the Lord since I was a child. I never knew that one day I would Pastor and lead others in the ways of the Lord. It really is one of my greatest gifts.”

While it’s true that Nekisha lives a truly blessed life, her road has not been easy. “For someone who grew up in the hood off of Burleigh in Milwaukee, WI in poverty, it’s quite the testament to the Lord’s goodness…I was supposed to be on welfare my entire life, so said the statistics: 6 children and a single mother prior to getting married—the devil had a plan to keep my greatness at bay, BUT GOD!”

Nekisha’s testimony is powerful. Married for ten years now, she has stayed faithful to God, served her family, church and community…and is now about to embark on law school. “He will never fail His children. Sometimes when you don’t understand the process that God is taking you through, you trust the plan, as His word cannot return to Him void.

According to Romans 8:28, it’s all working for our good. The good, the bad and the ugly.”

Name
Nekisha
Which city do you live?
Atlanta
Which state do you live?
Georgia
How would you describe the Ashro woman? How do you embody her?
CLASS, GRACE, ELEGANCE, MODESTY, MATURITY. I believe I embody this woman because I was raised by women who share these characteristics. I believe that today’s generation need to see strong examples of women who are wise in counsel, mature, and beautiful.
What do you do for a living? What do you like most about it? What don’t you like?
I am a claims adjuster by day and also a Pastor. In my corporate role, it is rewarding and has its benefits. However, I love the work I do in ministry on behalf of the Kingdom. I really enjoy speaking a word of encouragement to those who need it.
How do you spend your free time?
I spend my free time with my children and my husband. I am very family oriented and enjoy hanging out with my family and my doggies.
What small thing makes you happy?
Coffee. I’ll say that again, coffee. I love it and it makes me happy. Nothing like a fresh cup of coffee in the morning while meditating on the word of God.
What is your best dish? Who do you make it for—and where do you typically serve it?
Lasagna. It’s my husband’s favorite meal.
What has been your greatest struggle…and your greatest (or latest) triumph?
My greatest struggle I used to think was having my first child in my senior year of high school. What trumped that was the death of my daddy on December 9, 2020. I forgot how to breathe when my dad died. He really was my best friend and I miss him so much. My greatest triumph was graduating with my Bachelors degree in Management in August 2021 and then getting accepted into law school in the same month and year. I am not a University of Georgia -MSL School of Law student and for someone who grew up in the hood off of Burleigh in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, in poverty, its quite the testament to the Lord’s goodness. He will never fail his children. Sometimes when you don’t understand the process that God is taking you through, you trust the plan as his word cant return to Him void. According to Romans 8:28, its all working for our good. The good the bad and the ugly.
Who influenced you the most in your life. Why? And in what way?
My children influenced me. I was supposed to be on welfare my entire life, so said the statistics. 6 children and a single mother prior to getting married, the devil had a plan to keep my greatness at bay, but God.
Do you volunteer or do charity work? Tell us about it!
Since covid I have not been able to do much., but I have volunteered as a dance teacher/choreographer for the YMCA.
Are you in a sorority? Or is anyone in your family in a sorority? If so, which one and what does it mean to you?
no
What do you love about fashion and style?
I love colors and pretty things. Flowers, two piece sets, jumpsuits, one offs. I love different pieces that not everyone will wear. I absolutely adore clothing especially if I get to add contrast.
Has anyone in particular influenced your style?
The 20’s error. I love the vintage look when women dressed modest as women and left something to the imagination.
What occasions/events do you dress up for? (for example-do you often dress up for church, cultural events, charity events, going out, etc.) And how often do you typically get dressed up?
I dress up when I have preaching engagements, church, women’s conferences, out to dinner etc.
How has your style evolved over time?
Yes. My style changes with the trends but I always dare to be different.
Do you wear hats? How often and what type of hat? Do you wear them to church? If so, be sure to share a pic of you in a hat with us!
Ye, absolutely love fedora hats but not church hats. Im 41 years old and I didnt grow up cogic or apolstolic so unfortunately, I don’t really wear church hats
Do you wear headwraps? How often? Where did you learn how to tie it? Share a pic of you in a headwrap with us!
To bed and thats all.
Do you wear wigs? How often and what length or style? If so, be sure to share a pic of you in a wig with us!
Yes. I love human hair wigs and it allows me to be diverse in style as well.
Are you a woman of faith? How does that faith affect your life? Please tell us more.
Yes. I am a follower of Christ. The bible declares that the just shall walk by faith and not by sight. Without faith it is impossible to please God. I can’t live without reliance on the Father. When I wake up in the morning, I rise with expectation or faith, that God is going to blow my mind that day. That favor shall follow me and chase me down and just like my paycheck shows up every two weeks on a Friday, Faith shall open doors and unseen possibilities that I can only imagine.
Do you attend church? What church do you go to and what do you love most about it?
Yes. The FaithBase Church Atlanta. I love being amongst the saints. We need each other.
How are you passing along your faith traditions onto your children/grandchildren?
Yes. My children are being raised in the faith. I wont have it any other way
Are you a First Lady or a Pastor?
Yes
If yes, tell us about it.
I’ve been preaching since the age of 19. 22 years I have been in the Lord’s service. I am a Prophetess and I have an end time gift. I have been speaking to the Lord since I was a child. Never knew that one day I would Pastor and lead others in the ways of the Lord. It really is one of my greatest gifts. I married husband Senior Pastor Nicholas Cosey 10 years ago. Unfortunately, there is no manual on being a Pastor’s wife, it is one of the most rewarding but depressing positions a lady can hold. But we are graced for the mantle.
Your best advice?
Life is like the card game spades, sometimes the hand you get doesn’t allow you to enter the game or make any books. That’s how life is. God doesn’t want us to complain about the cards we’ve been dealt in life. We play our hands and learn the lesson, knowing that the dealer has to deal again. We walk with the Holy Ghost on the inside of us. There’s nothing we can’t accomplish when the Father is with us.
What lessons has motherhood (or being a grandmother) taught you?
Motherhood has taught me that my kids are rooting for me to win so that they have hope. I cant fail them.
Are you an Ashro Credit customer? If so, how has our credit helped you?
Yes. Love the credit.
Do you have a memory to share of when you first heard about Ashro or when you received your first catalog?
My mother used to keep Ashro books and catalogs. The clothing was always beautiful and so were the models.

Thanks for inspiring us, Nekisha!
