Onward & Upward: Ep. 2 with Bishop Dr. Barbara King

We Celebrate The Extraordinary Life of Bishop Dr. Barbara King

August 26, 1930–October 11, 2020

Did you know that Bishop Dr. Barbara King believed in you and your mission? Did you even know you had a mission? According to Dr. Barbara, you do! We all do. If you were ever blessed to hear Dr. Barbara speak, you immediately would have known (and felt) that she was full of God’s love—a love that poured out to those around her. HER mission in life was to spread God’s love. She believed and taught the encouraging truth that EVERYONE has their own unique mission in life, a mission that is God given. Dr. Barbara’s ministry started back in 1971 with a home bible study of just 12 people. And just as every great journey starts with one step, her small bible study grew and grew until it became her own church, The Hillside International Truth Center. Today that church is a 12-acre complex that has hosted great leaders like Oprah Winfrey and Maya Angelou. Dreaming and living big was Dr. Barbara’s way, and it was fueled not only by her faith and her adventurous spirit, but by her practice of consulting God in all things—even down to what she was going to wear for the day! As a spiritual world leader, she wrote 10 books, spoke to crowds as large as 80,000 (in India) and was enstooled as the first female chief in Assin Nsuta, Ghana, West Africa. We were extremely fortunate to be able to interview her for our Onward & Upward series shortly before her passing. Don’t miss the opportunity to have your life touched by this extraordinary woman!

What does Onward & Upward Mean to you?

“Onward means a continuing journey because we are not a destination, we are on a trail. Upward means to raise your consciousness to know more about that higher power, that presence that’s with you…

When you trust in the power called God, you can conquer anything.” – Bishop Dr. Barbara King

Brava Soror Leslie! Your interview with the illustrious Bishop, Rev. Dr. Queen Barbara King was AWESOME! I enjoyed every moment. She is indeed so worthy of all the titles and accolades she has received! Most of all as a Pastor/Teacher Woman of God. She has since transitioned, but she leaves a legacy of love and everlasting ministry of service to God and “to the least of these!” She was and always will be remembered as a PHENOMENAL WOMAN. PHENOMENALLY!!
